A New Adventure for the Reynolds Family

When I showed up at Arkansas Tech University as a freshman in 2001 I had no idea how campus ministry was going to impact my life. I found my faith in college. I also discovered a calling to ministry during my college years.

In recent years, I’ve written about the incredible need for reaching college students. I even released an eBook about it earlier this year. In particular, the need for campus ministry in the Churches of Christ is great. It’s a problem that grieves me.

For this reason, I was intrigued when the University Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa, Alabama contacted me a few months ago about interviewing for their Senior Minister position.

For a long time I’ve desired a role like that. But, I knew it would have to be the right fit. Specifically, I’ve felt a unique calling to be in a university context.

At first, Katie and I dismissed this opportunity. But, through a season of prayer and discernment we sensed God leading us in that direction.

The University Church was started as a church plant at the University of Alabama. As I’ve talked with their current leaders they’ve expressed a desire to reconnect with that original vision of reaching the campus. This vision captured our hearts.

After spending some time in Tuscaloosa, many conversations, and many prayers, the University Church shepherds invited us to serve as their Senior Minister. Katie and I believe this is a door God is opening for us so we accepted. We’ll move sometime in June.

I don’t see this as a step away from the things that have been so important to me. I see this as a step into those things. We’ve tried to create a sending culture in our current ministry. We’ve sent several leaders out to start or revamp ministries in recent years.

Now, we believe God is sending our family to help reignite a church at the University of Alabama.

I am incredibly thankful for the West Side Church. I’ve been given so many opportunities through this church family. I’m so thankful for a church that prioritizes ministry to college students. It changed my life.

I’d really appreciate your prayers as we make this transition. Have a great week!
