Adoption Update: Lovin’ Ain’t Easy

We’ve progressed quite a bit in our adoption process since I last posted an adoption update. We are completely finished with our paperwork and home study, we’ve been approved, and we’re waiting to be picked by a birthmother. We are very, very excited!

A few weeks ago we got a call from a family friend about a newborn baby in another state, who was in the custody of an adoption agency, and they could not find a family for her. Our family friend in Florida called us as a last resort. After spending some time praying about it we decided that we were definitely interested in pursuing adopting her only to find out a few days later that there was another family also interested who the agency had talked to first. They decided to move forward with the adoption. It brought about some strange emotions because, ultimately, we’re thankful the child has a home. But, at the same time, there was a part of us that had already welcomed her into our family. But, that’s the thing about love…it isn’t easy. Anytime you open yourself up to love, or extend it to someone else, there’s always a chance you’ll get hurt. But, in the end, it will always be worth it. After all, it is “the most excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31).

This weekend is a big weekend for our family. When we received our acceptance e-mail, we also received a list of fees. When the dust settles, the adoption will end up costing nearly $30,000. God has provided every step of the way so far and we have no reason to believe that anything will change as we move forward. But, this weekend is big because we’re hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at Stoby’s in Russellville, AR from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is a great deal because you pay Stoby’s $150 and they give you everything you need and we get to keep everything we make. So, if you’d like to help, here’s what you can do…

  1. RSVP to the event on Facebook
  2. Share the event on your wall or through your other social networks (tell your friends in person, too!)
  3. Come eat some pancakes on Sunday morning

Obviously, you’re going to eat something for breakfast or lunch on Sunday, we’d be honored for you to come by Stoby’s and help our family. It would mean a lot. Have a great weekend!
