It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I was at the Gulf Coast Getaway listening to Randy Harris talk about cruciform living. Cruciform living, he said, is living a life that constantly points people to the love and grace and mercy of God that was shown to us on the cross. When we live this way our lives point people to God’s story of love and redemption. God had been working on us for years but it was in that moment that I knew God was calling us to adopt. That was January.
We spent a few weeks praying about it and it became obvious to Katie and me that the time was right. We decided to do a domestic, newborn adoption, we picked an agency in Abilene, TX, and attended an adoption orientation in April. We left the orientation with a mountain of paperwork. We finally finished the paperwork last night! In the next few days Katie and I will take a CPR course and once we’re certified, we’re mailing everything in!
The next step is our home study. After that, we’ll submit a family scrapbook and a “dear birthmother” letter. One of the things we love about the agency we’re using is that they allow the birthmothers to choose the family that will adopt their child. Hopefully by the beginning of next year, our scrapbook and letter will be looked at by some birthmothers.
It costs between $20,000-$30,000 to do a domestic adoption. God has already begun to provide through some incredibly generous donations as well as Katie’s hard work as an Arbonne consultant. In the next month we plan to start selling t-shirts to raise money and we need your help. Thanks to Cecily Breeding we have two designs to choose from. Please let me know which one you like by leaving a comment. Have a great day!
